Second Saturday was created by a mom who loved serving others and sought to instill that same willingness or desire in her children. Volunteering pulled them out of their daily life and sometimes even out of their comfort zone . This allowed all involved to learn more about homelessness, food insecurity, veterans issues, foster care, senior isolation, domestic violence and more. Support was provided by many mothers and sons for a community outlet that simply volunteered locally and in the greater area. A brainstorming meeting in the early spring of 2010 led to the first Second Saturday event taking place in September of that same year. Second Saturday desires that most moms and boys can participate regardless of where they live, go to school, and without financial obstacle or time constraints. Second Saturday does not volunteer in an event based capacity but instead strives to make a difference an hour at a time.
